About the GreatStart5 Program Management WorkshopGreatStart5 staff conducts workshops periodically throughout California.Workshop participants will return to their programs with a clear understanding of how to best screen, train and support their tutors and students, and the best way to take advantage of the GreatStart5 materials, video and technical support. The workshop is free and consists of a one day training of program staff and trainers on effective literacy program management and the use of GreatStart5 Tutor Training Video and materials. Participants are only responsible for their own travel expenses. Registrants are sent the handout as an Adobe Acrobat file and asked to print out and bring the handout with them to the workshop. At the current time, workshops are being held throughout California. Here's what workshop participants have said after attending the workshop "The workshop provided the information and encouragement to make GreatStart5 our adult tutor training." -Sandy Phillips, Oceanside READS "Workshop participants commented on the breadth and width of the material presented, the fabulous format and the way in which the various components and modules fit together….thank you for the incredible work that has gone into GreatStart5-a labor of much thought and much love." -Marianne Handrus, Director, Chula Vista (Laubach) Literacy Center. "Evey ...walked us through the well-thought, beautifully formatted materials that are so Rich in content. I was struck by the thoroughness of GreatStart5 and also by the flexibility...there are support resources not only for tutors on-line, but also for program staff--how wonderful to be able to have access to someone so knowledgeable, experienced, and trusted to problem-solve....No matter if you're already familiar with GreatStart5 or if you're just curious to learn more, if you have the opportunity to participate in one of Evey's training workshops, take/make the time. On so many levels, you'll be glad you did!" -Carey Gross, Butte County Library Literacy Services." "If you have a chance to attend Evey's workshop on GreatStart5, grab it. She's dynamic, tells you what you need to know about using the program in an exciting and straightforward way, with no wasted words. If you have any doubts about using it for ESL training, get to the ESL workshop as well. She is so committed, you can't help but come away excited about getting started." -Charles Ross, Director, East County Laubach Literacy Centers of San Diego County "We purchased the program and had Evey here about 2 weeks ago for a workshop. It's a powerful tool for augmenting tutor training and providing many possibilities for in-services. The way she presented it, it reminded me of combining LitStart, Challenger, Tutor, and other texts and putting it all in a nutshell. She distills and puts everything in a nice, flexible package. I was especially impressed with the sections on screening prospective tutors to discover the ones with the best potential for being effective tutors AND with her section on assessing the levels of new students. The system is well-organized, easy-to-follow, non-threatening, and interactive. I highly recommend it.-Sal Morano, Literacy Librarian, Corona Public LibraryWorkshops Currently Scheduled To view our Program Management Workshop Schedule click here here. How to contact us about the workshops For more information, or to register up to three staff members to attend this workshop free, send us an email by clicking on the "Contact Us" icon on the left side of the page, or contact Evey Renner at eveyrenn@sbcglobal.net. |
